Date of issue: 8 July 2025

On the afternoon of 7 July, on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Juan Ramón de la Fuente, held a bilateral meeting that marks a new stage in the cooperation agenda between the two countries, just as the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations approaches.

According to the joint read out released by both foreign ministries and to statements posted by the Indian minister on X, the dialogue focused on four areas: strengthening pharmaceutical and vaccine production on Mexican soil, expanding co operation on digital innovation and Industry 4.0, exploring joint projects in space technologies, and coordinating positions in multilateral fora such as the UN, the G20 and the BRICS+ mechanism. With regard to digital innovation and the 4.0 economy, they agreed to deepen collaboration on cybersecurity, AI driven manufacturing and SME digitalisation,   space technologies. This component bolsters scientific co operation in the face of shared climate and food security challenges. The ministers also underlined the need to maintain convergent positions in debates on UN Security Council reform, the resilience of critical supply chains and climate finance, thereby strengthening the regulatory predictability required by long term projects.

The India Mexico Business Chamber will continue collecting comments from its members and conveying them to government.
